What to watch out for
It is the only layout here that puts your SUMMARY in the sidebar. That means your opening paragraph is the part a parser scrambles — the most costly section to lose.
How much fits on one page
This is one of the higher-capacity layouts here. The sidebar absorbs skills and certifications that would otherwise eat into the main column, so a ten-to-fifteen year career usually still lands on one page.
Spotlight and applicant tracking systems
Spotlight places Professional Summary, Skills and Languages in a sidebar beside your experience. Parsers read straight across a page rather than down a column, so a skill from the sidebar can land in the middle of a sentence about your last job. That does not make the template unusable — it makes it a design for human readers. Spotlight template questions
Why is putting the summary in the sidebar risky?
It is the only layout here that does so, and the summary is the costliest section to lose. A parser reading a two-column page scrambles sidebar content into the surrounding text, so your opening pitch — the part written to be read first — is the part that arrives garbled.
When is that trade worth making?
When a person definitely opens the file and the pitch is the whole argument — a career change, a speculative approach, a role where positioning matters more than sequence. The sidebar guarantees the summary is read and never scrolled past. Through a portal, use the Word download instead.
Why is the name highlighted rather than just enlarged?
Because a highlight holds its emphasis at any size, where an enlarged name competes with the dark sidebar beside it. It is a deliberate pairing: the sidebar is heavy, so the name needs a device rather than more points to stay the first thing read.
