How much fits on one page
This is one of the higher-capacity layouts here. The sidebar absorbs skills and certifications that would otherwise eat into the main column, so a ten-to-fifteen year career usually still lands on one page.

Parsers read straight across a page rather than down a column, so a skill from the sidebar can land in the middle of a sentence about your last job. That does not make the template unusable — it makes it a design for human readers. How is a slim sidebar better than a full one?
It takes only the width Skills and Languages actually need rather than a third of the page, so your experience keeps close to full measure. You get the visual benefit of a sidebar without surrendering the space that carries your argument.
My certification names wrap onto three lines.
That is the trade for the narrow column. Abbreviate where it is genuinely recognised — "PMP" rather than the full title, "AWS SA-Associate" rather than the certificate name in full. Anything a recruiter in your field would not recognise abbreviated should stay long, and may belong in the main column instead.
Does a slim sidebar parse better than a wide one?
Marginally, because less content sits at risk, but it is still a two-column layout and still not ATS-safe. Width changes the size of the problem rather than removing it. Keep only contact details and short lists in it, and use the Word export for portal applications.
