Who the Portrait template suits

Photo-expecting markets where you still want a single, parser-friendly column — the least risky way to include a headshot.

What to watch out for

The photo remains a regional decision, not a design one. Leave it off for the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

How much fits on one page

Capacity is middle of the road: comfortable for five to ten years of experience on a single page. Beyond that, drop the text size a notch in the builder rather than cutting a role.

Portrait and applicant tracking systems

Portrait is a single column, which is the arrangement applicant tracking systems read most reliably. A parser walks the page top to bottom and gets your sections in the order you wrote them. Nothing about this template needs adjusting before you upload it to a job portal.

Where in the world to send the Portrait template

The lowest-risk way to include a photograph: single column, so it costs you nothing with a parser, leaving only the regional question. Send it to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Latin America, the Gulf and much of Asia. Leave the photo off for the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and it remains a clean conventional layout.

Using this template

  1. Open “Use this template” above — the builder starts with Portrait already selected.
  2. Type your details. Everything saves in your own browser and is never uploaded.
  3. Try the 20 colour themes and 21 font pairings from the Design panel — 420 combinations of this one layout.
  4. Download as PDF to keep this design, or as Word if you are applying through a job portal.

Portrait template questions

Why include a photo at all?

In markets where it is conventional, its absence is noticed — a German Lebenslauf without one can look incomplete to a traditional employer. Outside those markets it adds nothing and risks a great deal, which is why every photo layout here says so plainly.

Is this safer than the sidebar photo templates?

Considerably. Profile, Spotlight and Vantage combine a photograph with a two-column layout, so they carry a regional risk and a parsing risk together. This carries only the first, and removing the photo removes it entirely.

Where in the world is a photo on a CV expected?

It is conventional in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and much of continental Europe, common in parts of Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, and actively harmful in the UK, US, Canada, Ireland and Australia, where it is a routine reason to discard an application. Check the market before you attach a face.
