Social Media Manager cover letter example
A complete letter — not a template with blanks in it. Read it, then replace the evidence with your own. The structure is what matters.

Hiring Manager
Nova Brand Studio
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Social Media Manager position at Nova Brand Studio. I currently run four brand channels for a consumer business with a combined audience of 420,000.
The number I care about most is not that one. Engagement rate went from 1.8% to 4.6% when we stopped broadcasting and started replying first — and the UGC programme that grew out of those conversations now supplies 40% of the calendar without production budget.
I have taken a brand through two live incidents, one of which reached national press, and I run a documented approval workflow so nothing contentious posts without sign-off. Those are the questions worth asking before handing over an account, and I would welcome the chance to answer them for Nova Brand Studio.
Sincerely,
Fatima Sheikh
Why each paragraph works
- 1
Platforms, audience size and posting cadence lead. A brand lead is checking whether this is organic community work, paid amplification or both.
- 2
The paragraph that persuades converts engagement into a commercial outcome. Follower growth alone has been discounted by every experienced marketing hire.
- 3
Closes on crisis handling and approval workflow — the risk questions a brand asks before handing over the account.
Who reads a social media manager cover letter
A brand or marketing lead, checking whether your audience did anything beyond following.
What to lead with
Growth tied to a business result — traffic, signups, sales — not follower count alone.
The mistake that costs social media managers interviews
Leading with follower numbers. A large audience that converts nothing is the exact objection you need to pre-empt.
Terms to work in naturally
These are the terms employers most often screen social media manager applications for. Use the ones that are genuinely true of you — a letter stuffed with keywords reads as a letter stuffed with keywords.
- social media management
- content strategy
- community management
- engagement rate
- paid social
- influencer marketing
- content calendar
- brand voice
- social analytics
- copywriting
Your resume needs them more than the letter does — see the social media manager resume example for where they belong.
Before you send it
- Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
- Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
- Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
- Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.
Social Media Manager cover letter questions
What should a social media manager cover letter include?
Platforms and audience size, posting cadence, engagement rate rather than follower count, and at least one result that reaches revenue or retention. Add the tools you schedule and report in, and any paid budget you have run.
Are follower numbers enough?
No — they are the metric most easily inflated and most often discounted. Engagement rate, community growth in a target segment, and social-attributed revenue carry far more weight. A brand is buying commercial judgement and crisis reliability, not reach.
Should I link my own social accounts in the letter?
Link the professional work — accounts you have run, campaigns you led — not your personal profiles. If you do link something, assume it will be read closely, because for this role that is the interview. An unmaintained or careless linked account costs more than including nothing.
