Marketing Manager cover letter example

A complete letter — not a template with blanks in it. Read it, then replace the evidence with your own. The structure is what matters.

Hiring Manager
Brightline Agency

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Marketing Manager position at Brightline Agency. Your advert describes a demand generation role that owns the number rather than the activity, which is how I prefer to work.

Over the past two years I grew marketing-sourced pipeline from $3M to $11M while cutting cost per qualified lead by 38%. The largest single gain came from rebuilding lead scoring together with sales — MQL-to-opportunity conversion went from 12% to 21% simply because we stopped passing on leads that were never going to close.

Alongside the campaign work I manage a team of four and own the relationship with two agencies, including the scope and budget conversations. That operational half is the part campaign results never show, and I would welcome the chance to discuss it with Brightline Agency.

Sincerely,

Jonah Whitfield

Why each paragraph works

  1. 1

Opens with channel, budget and the result. A marketing director is screening for whether this person has spent at their level, because managing a £50K budget and a £5M one are different jobs.

  2. 2

The CAC figure is the paragraph that works, because it connects activity to money. Impressions and engagement are inputs, and directors have learned to discount them.

  3. 3

Closes on team and agency management — the operational half of the role that campaign results alone do not evidence.

Who reads a marketing manager cover letter

A marketing director or founder. They want a commercial result, not a channel list.

What to lead with

Pipeline or revenue you influenced, with the spend behind it. Cost per acquisition moving in the right direction is the most persuasive line available.

The mistake that costs marketing managers interviews

Reporting impressions and followers. Vanity metrics tell a director you do not know which numbers matter.

Terms to work in naturally

These are the terms employers most often screen marketing manager applications for. Use the ones that are genuinely true of you — a letter stuffed with keywords reads as a letter stuffed with keywords.

  • demand generation
  • campaign management
  • seo
  • marketing automation
  • lead generation
  • roi
  • content strategy
  • google analytics
  • budget management
  • conversion rate

Your resume needs them more than the letter does — see the marketing manager resume example for where they belong.

Before you send it

  • Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
  • Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
  • Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
  • Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.

Marketing Manager cover letter questions

What metrics belong in a marketing manager cover letter?

Ones that reach revenue: CAC, ROAS, pipeline contribution, conversion rate, retention. Reach and engagement are activity measures, and a director reads them as a candidate who was not held to a commercial number. Name the budget you controlled — it establishes your level faster than a title.

Should I include campaign examples?

One, in detail, rather than a list. Give the objective, the budget, what you changed and the commercial outcome. A list of campaigns reads as a portfolio index; one worked example shows how you think about spending someone else money.

How specific should I be about budgets in a marketing letter?

Specific enough to establish scale — the annual budget you managed and the channels it covered. Marketing leaders calibrate candidates by spend managed, because running a Rs 5 lakh budget and a Rs 5 crore one are different jobs. Keep unpublished performance detail out.
