Digital Marketing Specialist cover letter example
A complete letter — not a template with blanks in it. Read it, then replace the evidence with your own. The structure is what matters.

Hiring Manager
Copperfield Media
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Digital Marketing Specialist role at Copperfield Media. I currently run paid and organic acquisition on a $600K annual budget.
The result I would point to is bringing blended acquisition cost from $94 to $61 while signups grew 140%. Most of that came from killing two channels that looked profitable under last-click and were not, which only became obvious once I rebuilt our attribution reporting.
I run Google and Meta Ads day to day, and I rebuilt our GA4 attribution and conversion tracking after the last migration broke it. Knowing which channel actually paid for itself is the difference between reporting on spend and managing it, and I would welcome the chance to discuss that with Copperfield Media.
Sincerely,
Thomas Lindqvist
Why each paragraph works
- 1
Channels owned and spend level open the letter. Paid social, SEO and lifecycle are different specialisms, and a marketing lead needs to know which one this is.
- 2
The ROAS and conversion figures persuade because digital marketing is fully measurable, so a letter without numbers implies the numbers were not good.
- 3
Closes on platforms and attribution setup — the technical facts that establish this is a practitioner rather than a coordinator.
Who reads a digital marketing specialist cover letter
A marketing manager, checking channel depth and whether you can be trusted with budget.
What to lead with
Spend managed and return on it. "£40K monthly ad spend at 4.2× ROAS" is the credential.
The mistake that costs digital marketing specialists interviews
Claiming every channel. Depth in two channels beats a list of eight, and a hiring manager can tell the difference.
Terms to work in naturally
These are the terms employers most often screen digital marketing specialist applications for. Use the ones that are genuinely true of you — a letter stuffed with keywords reads as a letter stuffed with keywords.
- digital marketing
- google ads
- seo
- ppc
- conversion rate optimization
- google analytics
- email marketing
- campaign management
- roas
- lead generation
Your resume needs them more than the letter does — see the digital marketing specialist resume example for where they belong.
Before you send it
- Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
- Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
- Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
- Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.
Digital Marketing Specialist cover letter questions
What metrics should a digital marketing cover letter include?
ROAS or CPA, conversion rate, monthly spend managed, and channel-specific measures — organic sessions and rankings for SEO, open and click rates for lifecycle. State the spend level plainly; it establishes your level faster than any job title.
How do I write one when my results were on small budgets?
Give the percentage improvement and the constraint. Doubling ROAS on a £3,000 monthly budget shows the same competence as doing it on £300,000, and hiring managers know it. Say the budget rather than hiding it — an unexplained figure invites the least generous assumption.
Should I include campaign metrics in a digital marketing letter?
Yes, with the baseline and the attribution model. "ROAS from 2.1 to 3.8 on Rs 40 lakh annual spend, last-click in GA4" is checkable and shows you understand measurement. An unqualified multiple reads to an experienced marketer as someone who has not thought about attribution.
