I am writing about the Data Analyst position at Aeris Software. Your advert asks for someone who can work with stakeholders rather than only with data, and that is the part of the job I care most about.
In my current role I rebuilt our demand forecasting model in Python, cutting forecast error by 23% and freeing $1.4M of held inventory. The model mattered less than the conversation that followed it: I sat with the supply chain team weekly until they trusted the output enough to change their reorder points.
I would welcome the chance to do similar work at Aeris Software, and I am happy to walk through the forecasting project in detail.

Why each paragraph works

Leads with a question the business asked, not with the tooling. An analytics lead is screening for whether you understand that analysis exists to change a decision.

The paragraph carries the decision that followed the analysis. That is the part most analyst letters leave out, and it is the only part that distinguishes an analyst from a dashboard.

The close offers a specific first ninety days rather than availability. It signals someone who has thought about what the role actually needs.
Who reads a data analyst cover letter
An analytics lead or the manager of the team you would join. They want to know whether your numbers changed a decision, or only produced a dashboard.
What to lead with
A question you answered and what happened next. The analysis is not the result — the action somebody took because of it is.
The mistake that costs data analysts interviews
Describing tools instead of outcomes. "Proficient in SQL, Python and Tableau" is on every letter they will read that week. What did the business do differently?

These are the terms employers most often screen data analyst applications for. Use the ones that are genuinely true of you — a letter stuffed with keywords reads as a letter stuffed with keywords.

Before you send it
- Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
- Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
- Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
- Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.

How do I write a data analyst cover letter with no commercial experience?
Use an academic project, a competition entry or a genuinely self-directed analysis, and describe it exactly as you would a work project — the question, the method, what you found, and what someone should do about it. The missing piece in junior letters is never the technique, it is the recommendation.
Should I list SQL, Python and Tableau in my cover letter?
Put them on the resume, where a recruiter searches for them. In the letter they cost you a line and prove nothing — every applicant that week has written the same three words. Spend the space on one analysis that changed something instead.
Should I attach a portfolio or dashboard with my analyst letter?
Link rather than attach, and only if it is genuinely presentable. A dashboard with real analysis and a written recommendation is strong evidence; a screenshot of a chart is not. Say in one line what the reader will find there, so they know whether it is worth the click.
