Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Auditor position at Harlow Capital. I have five years in external audit and currently run fieldwork on engagements with client revenue up to $400M.
The finding I am most proud of was a $3.2M revenue recognition misstatement that had passed two prior-year audits. It surfaced because I changed how we sampled cut-off testing rather than because of anything clever — the old approach had a blind spot around period-end contract modifications.
I work to IFRS and US GAAP, document in CaseWare, and plan engagements on a risk-assessed sampling basis rather than rolling forward the prior-year programme. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role and the sectors Harlow Capital audits.

Before you send it
- Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
- Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
- Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
- Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.

Qualification and progress towards it, audit type, client sectors and engagement sizes, the standards you work to, and findings you have raised and had accepted. Audit hiring is technical and specific; general statements about attention to detail are noise.
How do I move from external to internal audit?
Say so directly and reframe your experience around risk and controls rather than opinion and materiality. Internal audit hires for judgement about business process, so lead with control weaknesses you identified and what the client changed as a result.
Should an auditor cover letter mention specific clients?
Name the sector and the size band, never the client. "Manufacturing and logistics clients with revenue between Rs 200 crore and Rs 900 crore" tells an audit manager exactly what you need them to know, and naming an actual audit client would raise a confidentiality concern that ends the application.
