Content Writer resume example

Writing resumes are judged partly on the writing itself, so every line is a sample. Beyond that, reviewers want volume, formats and results — traffic, rankings, conversions — rather than a list of topics you have covered.

Summary example

Content writer with 5 years in B2B SaaS, publishing 12–16 long-form pieces a month. Grew organic traffic from 25K to 90K monthly sessions in 14 months, with 40 pieces ranking in the top three for their target term.

Notice the shape: years of experience, then one specific result with a number in it, then what you are known for. Three sentences is enough.

Bullet points that work

Adapt these to work you have genuinely done — the numbers must be yours.

  • Published 12–16 long-form articles monthly across product, comparison and how-to formats.
  • Grew organic sessions from 25K to 90K monthly over 14 months.
  • Wrote 40 pieces that reached the top three positions for their target search term.
  • Rebuilt 60 underperforming legacy articles, lifting their combined traffic by 210%.
  • Produced the email sequence that raised trial-to-paid conversion by 18%.
  • Set the style guide and briefed 4 freelance writers against it.

Tips specific to this role

  1. 1

Link to three pieces you are genuinely proud of. Reviewers will read one and decide.

  2. 2

Give publishing volume and traffic outcomes. Topics covered tell a reviewer nothing about quality.

  3. 3

Proofread this document more carefully than anything else you write. One typo ends it in this field.

Mistakes to avoid on a content writer resume

  • No links to published work. A writer's resume that does not let the reader read anything is asking to be dismissed.

  • Word counts as achievement. "Wrote 200 articles" is volume; traffic, rankings, leads or conversions are the outcome.

  • Omitting the subject areas. Writing credibly about tax software and about skincare are different capabilities.

  • Claiming SEO without specifics. Say what you actually did — keyword research, briefs, internal linking, refreshes — and what it moved.

How the summary changes with experience

The same role, written two ways. Take whichever is closer to where you are now.

Entry level

Content writer with two years producing long-form articles for a B2B software blog, averaging eight pieces a month. Three of the comparison pages I wrote now rank in the top five for their target terms and drive roughly 4,000 organic sessions a month. Portfolio at [link].

Senior

Content lead with 11 years in B2B technology, managing a team of three writers and a freelance bench. Rebuilt the content strategy around bottom-of-funnel intent, taking organic sessions from 40k to 190k a month over two years and organic-sourced pipeline from 8% to 31% of total. Certifications worth listing

Questions

What should a content writer put on a resume?

Lead with a summary that names your years of experience and your single strongest result. Then work experience with one measurable achievement per bullet, followed by skills using the exact terms from the job advert. For this role, employers screen most often for: content writing, seo, copywriting, content strategy, keyword research.

What results should a content writer show?

Organic traffic growth, rankings achieved, conversions or leads attributable to specific pieces, and sustained publication volume at quality. Content hiring is commercial now — a beautifully written portfolio with no performance data loses to a weaker one with numbers.

Does the writing on my resume itself matter?

More than in any other field. It is the only unedited sample the employer sees and it will be read as one. Generic phrasing on a writing resume is disqualifying in a way it simply is not elsewhere — every line is evidence.
