Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the Electrician position at Trenton Fabrication. I am fully qualified with nine years across commercial and industrial installation, currently leading a team of four.
The record I would put forward is a 98% first-time inspection pass rate across sixty-odd commercial projects, and no reportable incidents in nine years. The pass rate came from a pre-inspection checklist I introduced after a development where rework cost us three weeks.
I hold current testing and inspection certification, work on three-phase commercial and industrial systems, and issue my own certificates on completion. I would welcome the chance to discuss the role and the sites Trenton Fabrication covers.

A contracts manager or site foreman, checking qualification, card and the kind of installation.

The mistake that costs electricians interviews
Not naming the certification and card level. That is the first filter, and a letter that omits it does not get past it.
Terms to work in naturally
These are the terms employers most often screen electrician applications for. Use the ones that are genuinely true of you — a letter stuffed with keywords reads as a letter stuffed with keywords.

Before you send it
- Replace every number with one that is genuinely yours. A borrowed achievement collapses at interview.
- Find the hiring manager’s name if you can — two minutes on LinkedIn is usually enough.
- Check the company name appears correctly. Sending a letter with the previous employer’s name in it is the most common fatal error.
- Keep it to one page. If it runs over, cut the second half of paragraph two.

Do electricians need a cover letter?
For contractor and industrial roles that recruit through an application process, yes — and it is a genuine advantage, because most applicants send a bare qualification list. A short letter naming sector, voltage, certifications and availability answers every screening question at once.
Should an electrician letter mention tickets and certification up front?
Yes. Testing and inspection certification, the systems you are competent on and whether you issue your own certificates decide what work you can be sent to unsupervised, which is the whole hiring question. Put them early rather than at the close.
