Why does the left sidebar feel natural to read?
Because it matches the magazine convention the eye already knows — supporting detail in a narrow left column, main narrative to its right. That familiarity is genuine, and it is exactly what parsing software does not share.
Left or right sidebar — does it matter?
For a human, slightly: a left sidebar is met before your experience, a right one after it. Choose left if your skills are the pitch, right if your history is. For a parser, neither is better — both extract the same way.
Why is a left sidebar riskier than a right one for parsing?
Because a parser reading left to right hits the sidebar first and can treat it as the start of every line, interleaving your skills into your work history. A right sidebar usually degrades more gracefully. Neither is safe enough to mark ATS-safe, which is why both carry the same warning.
