School Administrator resume example
School administration resumes are read for the size of the school, the systems you have run and your safeguarding standing. Because these roles sit close to children and to statutory reporting, checks and compliance experience are screened before general admin skill.

Summary example
School administrator with 7 years in a 1,200-pupil secondary school. Run admissions, attendance and statutory returns, having raised attendance from 91% to 96% through a restructured first-day-absence process, and submitted 21 consecutive statutory returns on time.
Notice the shape: years of experience, then one specific result with a number in it, then what you are known for. Three sentences is enough.
Bullet points that work
Adapt these to work you have genuinely done — the numbers must be yours.
- Administered admissions, attendance and statutory returns for a 1,200-pupil secondary school.
- Raised attendance from 91% to 96% by restructuring the first-day absence process.
- Submitted 21 consecutive statutory returns on time with no data corrections required.
- Managed the transition to a new management information system for 1,200 pupil records.
- Coordinated examination logistics for 400 candidates across 3 exam series annually.
- Maintained the single central record to inspection standard across two full inspections.
Tips specific to this role
- 1
Give the pupil roll. It is how a school judges whether you have worked at their scale.
- 2
Name your safeguarding training and clearance status explicitly — it is a gating requirement.
- 3
Name the management information system. Schools filter on the specific package they run.
Mistakes to avoid on a school administrator resume
-
No school size or phase. A 200-pupil primary and a 1,600-pupil secondary are different institutions with different administrative loads.
-
Omitting budget responsibility. Where you have held one, its size is the clearest measure of seniority.
-
Leaving out compliance and safeguarding duties, which are usually the highest-risk part of the role.
-
Describing duties rather than improvements. Say what you changed about admissions, attendance, timetabling or reporting.
How the summary changes with experience
The same role, written two ways. Take whichever is closer to where you are now.
Entry level

Senior

Certifications worth listing
Put these in their own section with the awarding body and, where one applies, the expiry date.
- Level 4 Diploma in School Business Management
- Designated Safeguarding Lead training
- CIPFA or AAT qualification for finance-heavy roles
Questions
What should a school administrator put on a resume?
Lead with a summary that names your years of experience and your single strongest result. Then work experience with one measurable achievement per bullet, followed by skills using the exact terms from the job advert. For this role, employers screen most often for: school administration, admissions, attendance, safeguarding, management information system.
What do governors and trust leads look for?
Financial control and compliance ahead of anything else: budget managed and outturn, statutory returns completed, attendance and admissions administration, and the MIS you operate. Roll size and phase establish scale and should appear in the first line.
How prominent should safeguarding be?
Explicit, not implied. Name your training level, any DSL or deputy DSL role, and your record on single central record maintenance. In school recruitment an unaddressed safeguarding position is a reason to move to the next application.
