Sales Representative resume example

Sales resumes live or die on numbers: quota, attainment, deal size, cycle length. A sales resume without figures reads as a sales rep who did not hit target.

Summary example

Sales representative with 5 years in B2B SaaS, averaging 118% of quota across 4 years. Grew territory revenue from $1.1M to $2.7M and closed the largest single deal in company history at $480K. Strong on outbound and multi-stakeholder deals.

Notice the shape: years of experience, then one specific result with a number in it, then what you are known for. Three sentences is enough.

Bullet points that work

Adapt these to work you have genuinely done — the numbers must be yours.

  • Achieved 118% of a $2.4M annual quota, ranking 2nd of 18 representatives.
  • Grew territory revenue from $1.1M to $2.7M over 3 years through outbound prospecting.
  • Closed the largest deal in company history at $480K annual contract value.
  • Shortened average sales cycle from 94 days to 61 by restructuring the discovery call.
  • Built the outbound sequence now used by the full 18-person sales team.
  • Maintained 92% logo retention across a 60-account book.

Tips specific to this role

  1. 1

Give quota AND attainment. "$2.4M quota at 118%" is far stronger than either number alone.

  2. 2

Include your ranking if it flatters you — "2nd of 18" is instantly understood.

  3. 3

Name the CRM. It is a common hard filter.

Mistakes to avoid on a sales representative resume

  • No numbers. Sales is the one role where the reader expects quota, attainment and deal size, and their absence is read as a bad year rather than modesty.

  • Quota attainment with no quota. "Achieved 130% of target" means nothing until the reader knows whether target was $200k or $20M.

  • Leaving out the sales cycle and who you sold to. Transactional SMB selling and 9-month enterprise cycles are different jobs.

  • No mention of the CRM or how you sourced pipeline. Inheriting inbound leads and cold-building a territory are not equivalent.

How the summary changes with experience

The same role, written two ways. Take whichever is closer to where you are now.

Entry level

Sales representative with two years in SMB SaaS, carrying a $450k annual quota and finishing at 112% in the most recent year. Built pipeline through cold outreach, averaging 40 conversations a week and a 34-day cycle. Salesforce daily.

Senior

Enterprise account executive with 11 years selling into financial services. Carries a $4.2M quota, closed at 118% across the last three years, and led the $1.6M multi-year deal that opened the banking vertical. Average cycle 7 months across six-person buying committees.

Questions

What should a sales representative put on a resume?

Lead with a summary that names your years of experience and your single strongest result. Then work experience with one measurable achievement per bullet, followed by skills using the exact terms from the job advert. For this role, employers screen most often for: quota, pipeline, crm, salesforce, b2b sales.

What sales numbers should be on the resume?

Quota attainment with the period, average deal size, sales cycle length, territory or segment, and new versus existing business split. A sales resume without figures is read as someone who did not hit them — fairly or not.

How do I present a year where I missed quota?

Give the percentage and a reason with evidence — territory change, product withdrawal, a role that started mid-year. Reviewers respect a candid 78% with context far more than a vague claim of consistent overachievement that unravels in the interview.
