Notice the shape: years of experience, then one specific result with a number in it, then what you are known for. Three sentences is enough.

Mistakes to avoid on a mechanical engineer resume

No mention of the standards you design to. ASME, ISO, DIN and ASTM compliance is often the screening criterion.

Listing CAD packages without saying what you designed in them. SolidWorks is a tool; a 200-part assembly that went to production is experience.

Omitting whether your designs were manufactured. A concept that stayed in CAD and a part that shipped 50,000 units are very different claims.

No tolerance, material or process detail. GD&T, material selection and manufacturing process are where mechanical competence actually shows.

What should a mechanical engineer put on a resume?
Lead with a summary that names your years of experience and your single strongest result. Then work experience with one measurable achievement per bullet, followed by skills using the exact terms from the job advert. For this role, employers screen most often for: mechanical design, solidworks, cad, gd&t, finite element analysis.
How important is naming the industry on a mechanical engineering resume?
It is the primary filter. Automotive, aerospace, HVAC, medical devices and heavy plant share a discipline and little else — the standards, tolerances and regulatory regimes differ completely. Name your sector and the codes you work to in the first two lines.
Should I include projects that were never manufactured?
Only if the design work itself was substantial and you say plainly that it did not reach production. Built work carries far more weight, because manufacturability is where most designs fail. One shipped component beats three elegant concepts.
