Summary example
Customer service representative with 4 years in high-volume contact centres, handling 60+ contacts daily at a 94% satisfaction score. Trained 11 new hires and cut average handle time by 22% without hurting quality.
Notice the shape: years of experience, then one specific result with a number in it, then what you are known for. Three sentences is enough.
Bullet points that work
Adapt these to work you have genuinely done — the numbers must be yours.
- Handled 60+ customer contacts daily across phone, email and live chat while maintaining a 94% satisfaction score.
- Reduced average handle time by 22% by rewriting the 15 most-used response templates.
- Trained 11 new hires, all of whom passed quality certification on the first attempt.
- Resolved 89% of issues at first contact, above the 75% team target.
- Recovered 40+ at-risk accounts through proactive follow-up calls.
- Flagged a recurring billing fault that, once fixed, removed roughly 200 tickets per month.
Tips specific to this role
- 1
Give daily contact volume. It is the fastest signal of whether you can handle their queue.
- 2
Include CSAT or QA scores with the target next to them, so the reader knows what good looks like.
- 3
Name the helpdesk platform — Zendesk, Freshdesk, Service Cloud.
Mistakes to avoid on a customer service representative resume
-
Volume with no quality measure, or quality with no volume. Handling 80 contacts a day at a 60% satisfaction score is not a strong record, and the reader needs both numbers to judge.
-
Omitting the channel mix. Phone, email, live chat and social support are different skills with different pacing.
-
No mention of the systems. Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud and Freshdesk imply different team sizes and process maturity.
-
Describing de-escalation in the abstract. Name a category of hard contact you handled — billing disputes, outages, safeguarding — rather than claiming patience.
How the summary changes with experience
The same role, written two ways. Take whichever is closer to where you are now.
Entry level
Customer service representative with 18 months in retail e-commerce support, handling around 60 contacts a day across email and live chat in Zendesk with a 91% satisfaction score. First point of contact for delivery and returns disputes.
Senior
Customer support team lead with 9 years, currently managing 14 agents across phone and chat for a subscription business. Cut average handle time from 11 to 7 minutes by rewriting the macro library, and holds team satisfaction at 94%. Owns escalations and the quality-assurance scoring.
Questions
What should a customer service representative put on a resume?
Lead with a summary that names your years of experience and your single strongest result. Then work experience with one measurable achievement per bullet, followed by skills using the exact terms from the job advert. For this role, employers screen most often for: customer service, customer satisfaction, call center, crm, conflict resolution.
How do I make customer service experience sound substantial?
Quantify throughput and quality together: contacts handled per day, channels, CSAT or NPS, first-contact resolution, average handle time. Every competing resume claims excellent communication; almost none prove volume and quality with numbers.
Do the systems I have used matter?
A great deal — Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshdesk, ServiceNow and the like are searched for directly by recruiters, and prior familiarity shortens training. List them explicitly rather than writing "various CRM systems".
